FAQ

I lost my login information to access my APB account. How should I proceed?
Last year, I already created an APB account and I would like to reconnect with my previous login information but I am not able to. Is this normal?

FAQ

1. I lost my login information to access my APB account. How should I proceed? From the Admission postbac website, click on « m'inscrire ou accéder à mon dossier » (login or access my folder) and then, once on the page « 1ère visite » (first visit) click on the icon « codes perdus » (lost codes). You must then fill in an electronic request form and your login information will be automatically sent to the email address you initially provided when creating your original APB account.

2. Last year, I already created an APB account and I would like to reconnect with my previous login information but I am not able. Is this normal? Your codes from last year are no longer valid. You need to create a new folder by clicking on « m'inscrire ou accéder à mon dossier » (login or access my folder) and then click on « 1ère visite » (first visit). New codes will then be provided for this new session.

3. I started my APB registration but I'm stuck in the Baccalauréat rubric – you will need to look for the OCEAN number noted on transcripts from the previous year. If you are unable to locate this number, you will need to contact the administrative office of your lycée (secondary school/high school) to rectify the problem.

4. How can I ensure that a choice has been validated? To validate a choice, click on « valider » (submit ) located on the « validation et impression » (validation and print) tab – Section « Vœux » (Choice). The validated choices will be preceded by a green "V". We recommend that you then print all your choice records. Why? Your choice list is one of the constituent parts of the paper dossier if it is requested The choice list is also evidence of pre-registration in the case of electronic records (paperless file, non-selective academic choice). ent une preuve de pré-inscription en cas de dossier électronique (dossier dématérialisé, vœu universitaire non sélectif).

5. The fiche pédagogique (educational form), is it mandatory, since I am no longer in terminale (third and final year of secondary school) this year? No, you are not obligated to provide the educational file. The formation welcoming commity may require this.

6. How can I be sure that my paper records have reached the facilities where I sent them? The Academic institutions will not send an accusé de reception (acknowledgment of receipt) but you can check the status of your electronic file (Space « Vœux » (Choice) - rubric « Suivi des dossiers » (Application follow-up)) from Tuesday May 10th to Thursday, May 12th 2011.Three possible scenarios will figure: * The reference « dossier reçu et complet» (file received and complete) appears next to a choice: no additional steps are needed. * The reference « dossier non parvenu » (file not received) appears next to a choice, you will need to contact the academic institution concerned right away. *The reference « dossier incomplet » (file incomplete) appears next to a choice: in this case you will receive an email which will specify the missing documents. If you changed your email address during the procedure, remember to update your electronic APB file.

7. I registered a choice too fast and I would like to cancel it. How do I do this if I have not already validated it? What if I have already validated it? *After clicking on the space « Vœux » (Choice), you have the possibility to view all of your choices and remove any choice issued by March 20th, but only if it has not already been validated. * If the choice has already been validated, you cannot delete it, rather simply reclassify it (until May 31st): it will not be considered but will still be counted against your 36 choice maximum quota. Under the space « Vœux » (Choice), tab « ordre des vœux » (choice order), click on « modifier la liste ordonnée » (modify ordered list) and select « enlever » (remove) next to the choice concerned.

8. I would like to enroll in prépa (preparatory class for superior studies) and inquire about on campus boarding and off campus boarding possibilities for multiple paths within a single school. How many files can I create and how many choices will be counted? After selecting the desired training within an academic institution, the type of accommodation/boarding you prefer will be asked (if the school is equipped with on-campus housing). You can, for the same choice, classify two different choices: with and without boarding. Only one choice will be counted. * On campus housing/boarding dossier: If you are applying for on campus housing/boarding for different CPGE (Preparatory class) paths within the same academic institution, you only need to create one housing request file. * Application form: You will however be obligated to create a paper file per formation and per lycée (secondary school).

9. I have been educated in Paris and wish to enroll in L1 in Nanterre. I have tried to save my choice but it does not work. Why? You must first enter a choice electronically for an L1 within your academy *, for which you have priority. Only then will you be able to select L1's outside of your academy and reclassify all of your choices in order of preference. * Academy of origin: where the applicant has passed his or her baccalauréat (secondary school diploma)

10. I am currently in L1 and I would like to switch to another license (3 year University degree). Should I create an APB account? If you have already registered for a license with a University, or for a DUT (two year technical degree), you are not eligible to go through the Admission postbac portal to reapply for another license in the Ile de France region. You will need to contact the universities concerned. You are able however to apply via the Admission postbac portal for a selective channel outside the University sector (BTS (two year technical degree) CPGE (Classe Préparatoire Grande Ecole), engineering schools, ...).

11. I would like to apply for a higher education scholarship. What should I do? You will need to postulate on the CROUS website between January 15th to April 30th, 2011. The APB website disposes a link redirecting you to the CROUS website. The APB website offers only one simulation (Space « Inscription » (Register) – tab « Critères sociaux » (social criteria).)

12. I just consulted my session and I have a favorable response to my 1st postbac choice. What does « Démission car vœu 1 proposé » (Demission as choice 1 has been offered) mean in relation to choices 2 and 3? This means that it is only possible to be offered one choice, namely as in this case the best possible choice from your list. As soon as a choice is accepted, all lower raking choices are cancelled out and added back into the system for other candidates.

13. I'm wait-listed for my 1st choice, rejected for my 2nd choice and I was offered my 3rd choice. If during the next round, the 1st choice is accessible to me, would I have the choice between my 3rd choice and my 1st choice or will the 3rd be automatically blocked? One unique offer will be made from APB. If during the next round, you receive an offer of admission for your 1st choice, you will automatically lose the current offer (3rd choice). If your 1st choice is not offered during this round, the 3rd choice offer remains in place, provided that you respond « oui mais » (yes but) at the admission stage.

14. I received an offer of acceptance for my 3rd choice and I'm waiting on my 1st choice. I prefer my 1st choice and would like to answer « non mais » (no but) for my 3rd choice. By answering (no but) in regards to your 3rd choice, you are no longer considered a candidate for that formation but you will remain in the running in regards to your 1st choice that is on hold. Caution: If you do not receive an offer in regards to your 1st choice during phase two or phase three, you will not have an assignment.

15. My 6th choice has just been offered to me during the first stage of the admission postbac inscription. I would like to answer « oui mais » (yes but) except I do not see this response in my list of answers. How can I answer « oui mais » (yes but)? Being that you were denied choices 1-5, it is not possible to change the offer proposed to you for your 6th choice. You have no choice other than to respond definitively to the acceptance offer made to you.

16. I would like to know if the criterion « refusé par l'établissement » (refused by the establishment) is another way of saying « liste d'attente » (waiting list). « Refusé par l'établissement » (Refused by the establishment) means that your file has not been ranked by the academic institution. Therefore, you will not receive an acceptance offer for this choice.

17. Would you be able to tell us why none of my choices were accepted? We thought that at least one choice would be automatically validated. For those who requested selective courses, your daughter's file was not ranked high enough by the institution for her to be accepted. In the IDF (Ile de France region), certain licenses (three year University degrees) are in very high demand and the capacity for acceptance is quite low compared to the number of applications, as is the case with the license your daughter applied for. This is why you are currently “on hold”. It is imperative that you reconnect and continue to the proceeding phases. If at the end of the all APB phases, you still do not receive an acceptance offer, you will need to participate in « procedure complémentaire » (additional proceedings).

18. I am currently wait-listed. Am I guaranteed to be accepted into one of the formations of my choice during the next phase? Or should I take other measures? Login to you APB account during the proceeding phases, in order to see if your status has changed. If you find that you do not have any acceptance offers, you will need to participate in « procedure complémentaire » (additional proceedings) right away while at the same time keeping the possibility of obtaining an acceptance offer during the final phase.

19. During the second phase, I answered « oui mais » (yes but) to a proposal. Should I proceed immediately to my administrative registration for this formation or wait until the third phase? Yes, you should complete the administrative procedures of registration for this formation, if displayed by the academic institution, under the tab « Message établissement » (message from institution) - space « Admissions » (Admissions). During the 3rd phase, if you receive an acceptance offer for a choice of better ranking, then you can cancel your 1st registration and redo the administrative steps with the new facility.

20. I did not receive an acceptance offer at all during the first phase but I'm still waiting for a response concerning some of my choices. What should I do? You must reconnect and continue to the second phase.

21. If I am not offered a proposal by the end of the second phase, what should I do? You must wait for the results of the third phase, available as of July 14th. Meanwhile, you can participate in the « procedure complémentaire » (additional proceedings), beginning June 24th.

22. If I accept an offer for a « procedure complémentaire » (additional proceedings) before knowing the results from the third phase of the normal postbac procedure, do I lose the choices that were made during the normal postbac procedure? No, the choices entered during the normal postbac procedure take priority and therefore remain intact until the final phase. It is likely that you will receive an acceptance offer as of July 14th for one of your choices that is on hold and if you accept the offer, you will be automatically withdrawn from the accepted choice of the « procedure complémentaire » (additional proceedings).

23. I have my baccalaureat general (secondary school diploma – division general). I received an acceptance offer for a choice during the normal postbac procedure but I am no longer interested by this choice and I would like to participate in the « procedure complémentaire » (additional proceedings). Is this possible? Yes, but only for a non-selective license. Therefore you will not be able to apply for the list of selective formations in the « procedure complémentaire » (additional proceedings) nor the licenses of the PCL1IDF, regardless of the response that you supplied during the normal postbac procedure.

24. Is it possible for me to retain a choice for PC classique (Preparatory class classic) while waiting for a response from the PCL1IDF? "I have my baccalaureat diploma (secondary school diploma) and I did not receive an acceptance offer after undergoing the normal postbac procedure. Therefore I applied for: L1 Informatique (L1 Computer Science) in Paris's 7th district in the classic « procedure complémentaire » (additional proceedings) as well as _ - L1 Mathématiques & Informatique (L1 Math & Computer Science) also in Paris's 7th district in the PCL1IDF (identified by a red dot) __I just received an admission offer in PC (Preparatory class) on June 30th for L1 Info (with sufficient capacity) but would prefer L1 Math-Info, for which I will not have an answer before the 1st week of September. Can I keep my classic PC choice in place while waiting to have a response for PCL1IDF? "# _ No, you must in fact make a choice in anticipation: - opt for the moment for L1 Info, for which you will be automatically withdrawn in the event that you are accepted to PCL1IDF, or - Withdrawal from L1 Info and maintain your PCL1IDF application, which involves a risk, even if all methods have been implemented in favor of baccalauréat (secondary school diploma) holders of the Ile-de-France region.

25. For health reasons, I need to pass my baccalauréat degree (secondary school diploma) in September 2011. What should I do? As soon as possible you will need to notify the SAIO (via the rubric « contact » from your account) so as to avoid being automatically withdrawn from a future admission offer. Having already registered your choices, you will need to respond to the admission offer sent to you as if you had obtained the baccalauréat.

26. It is displayed « démission car échec au bac » (abandon due to failure to pass baccalauréat) on the front of the proposal which I accepted. Now I'm enrolled in the September session. What should I do? As soon as possible you will need to inform the SAIO (via the rubric "contact" from your account) in order that your acceptance for the admission offer is reinstated.

27. I am recognized by the Maison Départementale des Personnes Handicapées and I hope that this support will continue throughout my higher education studies. What should I do? You will need to contact your lycée (secondary school/high school) who will compile a file along with the help of the school physician, to be sent back to the Academy of Paris, Medical Technical Advisor to the Director of the Academy of Paris AND you must register your choices on the APB website. Tips: - Connect to the website Handicap du Ministère (Department of Disability) via your APB account. - Contact the host institutions, open house.

Out of 516,229 terminale (final year of secondary school/high school students pursuing postbac inscription via le site www.admission-postbac.fr:

Approximately 88% received an acceptance offer from the academic establishment of their choice.

Mechanism APB

The algorithm of the Admission Postbac procedure is a Truth Telling mechanism.

a) A terminale (final year of secondary school/highschool) student will gain an advantage by classing his or her choices in the order that they are truly preferred.

b) In reality, this reasoning assumes that the terminale student knows his or her true preferences, something that is not always verified.

For example, consider lycée (secondary school/highschool) X: if candidate B is classed ahead of candidate A when in fact X actually preferred A, this could be several things:

a) either A ranked X fairly low on his or her choice list and was at any rate accepted into a lycée Y that he or she preferred, and as in this case, having put A before B (which reflects the truth) would not have changed anything;;
b) or A preferred X , but A and B are assigned to X anyway, and once again the truth would not have hurt;
c) or A preferred X, B as well, and being that X chose B, it's B who integrates X and not A - in this case, communicating the truth would have been strictly better for X!

In considering other possible outcomes related to the above example, we notice generally that for most outcomes, to put A ahead of B yields a value greater than or equal to X than does the reverse, which perfectly illustrates that it is of the upmost importance to be honest, and supports the jargon of “game theory” that the "incentive-compatibility constraint" is verified.

For candidate A then: Suppose that he or she classes Y ahead of X (Y can represent a prépa (Preparatory class) and not just a lycée (secondary school/highscool)) when he actually prefers X to Y.

a) Either his or her candidature only gives access to Y, and he or she might as well have put X ahead of Y without changing the result;
b) or he or she only had access to X, and again here being truthful would not have changed anything;
c) or, his or her candidature allowed access to both X and Y, in which case the student will be assigned to Y, whereas he or she could have received X if his or her true preferences had actually been revealed.

The only risk that remains for the candidate: to have overestimated his or her level and have chosen only those academic institutions that did not ultimately offer acceptance.

The best case scenario would be if terminale students could classify without limit all the formations by which they were interested via the Admission postbac website but this is not the case since the maximum limit is 12 choices per division.

Take great care in choosing your Classe Préparatoire Grande École - CPGE (Preparatory class for superior studies)

From the moment of registration via the Admission postbac website The number of terminale (final year of secondary school/highschool) students likely to choose a CPGE as their postbac orientation has grown significantly.

In September 2009, out of 77,600 terminale students enrolled in "prépa" (Preparatory class for superior studies), 42,400 students integrated, the first year, a “prépa“ scientific, commercial or literary.

At the end of their postbac orientation, 2 / 3 terminale students registered via the Admission postbac website have a CPGE as their first choice.

Be sure to have the profile for a CPGE .
Choose schools where your selected CPGE can be integrated.
Choose concours suited to your aptitudes.
Choose a CPGE that corresponds to your academic level.
Know the acceptance rates.
Determine “second” rank choices
Know if the CPGE benefits from conventions with universities in order to acquire the ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System).

The criteria used in evaluating a terminale (final year of secondary school/highschool) student's dossier for a CPGE (Preparatory class for superior studies) will generally focus on:

Assessing the scope of progress.
The assessment of working capacity in terms of efficiency, professionalism and quantity.
The academic level of the terminale student in regards to the requirements of the baccalauréat (the main diploma required to pursue university studies ), in comparison to other students in the class and the estimated acceptance rate for entry into a CPGE.
The terminale student's motivation in regards to the formation and their course of study plan.

Establish a strategy

Have made a personal diagnosis,
have a course of study planned out
choose the right "prépa" (Preparatory class for superior studies)
organize with great care your list of choices in terms of preference (consider a second ranked postbac orientation choice, prepare a "back-up choice” (precautionary choice),
Make sure to complete postbac registration on time
file applications accordingly,
modify postbac choices according to grades and the valuation of your professor,
have a response prepared for terminale candidates who were accepted via the Admission postbac website,

The objective of this portal is to enable students of terminale to competently effectuate postbac orientation choices when they register in a division of higher education and to offer terminale students comprehensive and objective information.

As the report "renforcer l'orientation active" of the Délégué Interministériel à l'Orientation (Interministerial Delegate of Orientation) of the DGES mentions:

“It is important in this regard to clearly distinguish:

Designed so that terminale (final year of secondary school/highschool) students have the best chance of successfully completing registration via the Admission Postbac website.

These rules apply to all terminale students:

Inquire with school guidance counselors
Sort imperatively your choices in order of preference
Effectuate at least one choice for a non-selective establishment within the jurisdiction of your academy
Never choose the answer “non mais" (no but)
Verify whether your chosen formation is included in a selective division or non selective
Know your level to classify your choices
Remember to verify the reception of paper records by institutions to ensure your Postbac inscription
Know the valuation of the academic institution's head and the opinion of professors concerning your Postbac orientation before making choices
Always have “second rank” choices
A choice satisfied cancels out choices of lower rank

Orientation Postbac

Prior to postbac registration via the Admission postbac website for terminale (final year of secondary school/highschool) students. Each student of terminale must have a solid opinion based on a review of his or her course of study plan, his or her aptitudes and the demands of the curriculum considered so as to reinforce the initial choice of postbac inscription or it is advised to readjust to a course of study better suited to the student's circumstances which might offer better chances for success and satisfactory employment opportunities later on.
